Update August 31, 2010 - iBBDemo2 is now open source!

iBBDemo 2.0 - Still Free, sassier than ever...

One of the most popular topics on Labs was our iPhone Web Browser simulator (iBBDemo).  It was a nice little utility, but it was lacking a lot of features and polish.  Recently I have been researching Adobe Air, and needed to sink my teeth into a project in order to really gain a deeper understanding of the Adobe Air 2.0 platform.  I noticed that Air 2 embeds a very recent version of WebKit, so it hit me that a re-write of iBBDemo on Air would be just the ticket.

Thoughts on Flash

How could I pass up the opportunity? An iPad and iPhone Web Browser simulator written using Adobe Flash technology, which itself,  is not supported on the iPhone and iPad {ahem}.  I am really happy with the result, and I was able to knock out pretty much every feature request that has come in for iBBDemo 1.0, and it is cross platform to boot :)   I hope you web developers out there find it useful.

Introducing iBBDemo 2.0 - Features (View a quick 4 minute demo video)
  • Cross platform - Re-written on Adobe Air 2, Windows, Linux and Mac all supported.
  • iPad emulation (Switch between iPhone and iPad via hot keys).
  • Portrait and Landscape support.
  • Basic authentication and credential challenges handled.
  • Zoom and Scale.
  • Toggle for Flash Support - By default, iBBDemo will attempt to disable Flash content (experimental).  By crippling Flash we ensure a more accurate simulation of the magical iPad and iPhone Web browsing experience.
Installing iBBDemo

Happy coding.

Coming soon: Android support...
